One of the things I admire the most is the "why the fuck should I have to make emulations of one size fits all products when there are already enough out there?" attitude. He brings art into the engineering, with the experimental nature of the products and the adventurous design of the signal flow&components.
I can understand how its important to walk the line and not shun away customers, but a lot of people need to be told to fuck off, I'm happy to see someone out there doing it for me, someone that makes obscure products that can also function in a very "musical" manner. Something different than the other choices out there. People either get it or they don't.
I also of course love the art by Dave hehehehehehehehehe, and love that people don't want to look at it. "If you don't like it then fuck off and go back to your hollywood live triangle soap operas."
He's not a fluke or a hack either, reading his educational articles proves that. Event though the info is out there, not many pay attention to it, even schools that praise their glorious analog and tape and LA-4's, Mention someone they havent heard of and they automatically assume that they don't need to research this stuff, or that it could possibly be usefull or atleast interesting to them.
I recently had to write a paper of a producer/anyone or anything in the music industry, So I wrote it on the history of Metasonix 98-present complete with pics,a cd with audio, design specifications, etc, and I didn't get any feedback. I got a grade but no comments or further discussion took place.... hmmm, I question if they even read the whole thing or paid attention to the visual aids I provided.
LA-4? Yuck. LA-3A! :) Normally I'm not much of a snob on that kind of shit, but the bulb+photocell T4 optics of the LA-3A sound much more natural than the LED ones of the LA-4.
I know I still own you metasonix manual shots, but I'd love too see that paper on metasonix history.
